It's that time again. The weather is getting colder, the snowflakes are falling, hot cocoa sounds delicious (but when does it not?) and I am constantly reminded that I am TERRIBLE at fire starting.
Luckily we can just crochet a scarf to keep us warm, right?
RIGHT! |
I used about two thirds of a skein of multicolored Red Heart With Love yarn (purchased at Walmart). I believe the color is Plum Jam. You may recognize it from this pattern. The rest of the skein has been staring at me from my highly disorganized craft shelves ever since. Sad.
I was feeling a little wild, so I grabbed a jumbo hook (size P). Feel free to also go crazy with your hook choice. Just remember to keep your shirt on, okay?
This scarf is REALLY easy and because of the large hook size, works up very quickly. I think they would make great presents for family and friends (you know, if you're one of those people who thinks of things like that ahead of time and consequently isn't up for 27 consecutive hours crocheting Christmas presents like a madwoman a few weeks from now ... notthatIwouldknowhowthatis.)
Here's the pattern!
Abbreviations are as follows:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
crossed dc = crossed double crochet*
*If you are unfamiliar with this stitch, don't be skeered! It's simple. All you do is skip one stitch, double crochet in the next stitch, then go back and double crochet in the one you skipped. I went through the second stitch from back to front when I made this. Here's a poorly-lit, semi-fuzzy, extremely awkward video with lots of auto-focus noises because I forgot to set it to manual. Sorry.
If you made it through that without cringing, you deserve a gold star. A prime example of why I avoid videos in general : P
ROUND 1: Ch 14. Dc in 4th ch from hook. Dc in next 11 ch. Ch 3. Turn. (12 dc)
ROUND 2: 11 dc across. Ch 3. Turn. (12 dc)
ROUND 3: Repeat round 2.
ROUND 4: Crossed dc five times (10 dc total). Dc in end. Ch 3. Turn. (12 dc)
ROUND 5: Repeat round 4.
ROUND 6: Repeat round 4.
ROUND 7 - 9: Repeat round 2.
ROUND 10 - 12: Repeat round 4.
The rest is REALLY simple. Repeat round 2 three times, then round 4 three times until you reach the desired length. I ended up with 66 rounds (11 sets of 3 = 33 rows of dcs, 11 sets of 3 = 33 rows of crossed dcs) for a total length of 72ish inches.
When you get to the length you want, finish it off.
To make it an infinity scarf, simply weave the ends together with a whip stitch (this made my infinity scarf about 36 inches long by about 4.5 inches wide). It wraps comfortably two or three times. Again, feel free to experiment with the length to get the look you want!
Weave in any ends and you're done!
Hooray for cozy necks! :-D
thanks for the pattern. It looks very easy. The video helped out a lot too. I have a better understanding of the crossed double crochet. Will be making this tonight!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment! Glad the video was helpful :)
DeleteI feel your pain on the 27 hours, I was working on gifts alll day, for two weeks at least.
ReplyDeleteI finished the night before Christmas.
My family was so impressed with my "hidden" crochet skills, they all requested something for me to make them.
And I say hidden because this was my first time really crocheting stuff.
This pattern looks pretty easy, thanks so much for sharing!!!
Oh man! I tried (and failed) not to do that this year. Maybe next time :) Good luck with the pattern!
